Troop 5 offers a structured program that empowers young people to learn essential skills, cultivate leadership abilities, and embrace a commitment to service. Advancement through the ranks signifies a Scout’s increasing knowledge and capabilities.
Scout
Description: The Scout rank is the first step in a Scout’s journey. It’s all about embracing the core values of Scouting and learning fundamental skills. New Scouts are introduced to the Scout Oath and Law, which guide their actions and decisions. They learn essential knots, the meaning behind the Scout sign and salute, and how to be a responsible member of their troop and patrol. This rank sets the stage for a lifetime of adventure and personal growth.

- Knot Tying (square knot, two half-hitches, taut-line hitch)

Tenderfoot
Description: As a Tenderfoot, a Scout takes their first steps into the world of Scoutcraft. They experience the thrill of a Scout campout, learning to set up camp and pack for an overnight adventure. They develop physical fitness and learn basic first aid, preparing them to help others in need. Tenderfoot Scouts also begin to put their Scout spirit into action by participating in a service project, making a positive impact on their community.

Second Class
Description: Second Class Scouts continue to build their outdoor skills and knowledge. They learn to navigate with a map and compass, venturing further into the wilderness. They develop cooking skills, preparing them to plan and cook meals for their patrol. Second Class Scouts also deepen their understanding of nature, learning to identify local wildlife and appreciate the importance of conservation. They improve their swimming abilities and first aid knowledge, becoming better prepared for any situation.

First Class
Description: The First Class rank marks a significant milestone in a Scout’s journey. They become more self-reliant and confident in their outdoor abilities. First Class Scouts master essential skills like advanced navigation, first aid, and weather forecasting. They explore the waterways by participating in a watercraft activity. They also gain a deeper understanding of citizenship and their role in society.

Star Scout
Description: Star Scouts step into leadership roles, guiding their fellow Scouts and contributing to the success of their troop. They begin to explore their individual interests by earning merit badges in a variety of subjects. Star Scouts also demonstrate a commitment to service, actively participating in projects that benefit their community. This rank is a stepping stone towards the prestigious Eagle Scout rank.

- Leadership (serve in a troop leadership position)
- Merit Badges (earn six, including four required for Eagle)

Life Scout
Description: Life Scouts continue to refine their leadership skills and prepare for the challenges of the Eagle Scout rank. They earn more merit badges, expanding their knowledge and skills in various areas. Life Scouts also demonstrate a sustained commitment to service, making a positive impact on their community. This rank represents a significant step towards achieving the highest honor in Scouting.

- Extended Leadership (serve in a troop leadership position)
- Advanced Merit Badges (earn five more, including three required for Eagle)

Eagle Scout
Description: The Eagle Scout rank is the pinnacle of achievement in Scouts BSA. Eagle Scouts embody the ideals of Scouting, demonstrating exceptional leadership, service, and commitment. They have earned numerous merit badges, showcasing their diverse knowledge and skills.
